Lou Cocody-Valentino is a French-Caribbean visual artist working within the realm of installation. Graduated in 2021 with a Printmaking Masters from La Cambre, Belgium, her practice draws on her ancestry - rooted in several islands of the Antilles archipelago - memories of her experience as an islander, of a life in motion between Martinique and France, and an overall exploration of the fragmentation of self. Stemming from an experimental practice with recycled materials, including but not limited to melting discarded plastics, assembling and modifying found fabrics through printing and organic dyeing processes, sculpting recycled paper pulp, painting reclaimed wood … Lou creates a poetic archipelago, a porous non-place where each artwork responds to the next, harmonizing diverse techniques to explore intimacy, personal geography, and the influence of territory on identity through opacity and color.
